Open Air Theater
Open Air Theater is a project participating in the 2017 Theater architecture competition organized by OISTAT. ( Organisation Internationale des Scénographes Techniciens et Architectes de Théâtre ) The theme is to conceive a temporary “ Theatre Village “, which can be erected for a short festival of theatre, providing representation spaces for both conventional performances and more experimental experiences. It encourages to explore the relationship between the performance itself and the public space which it inhabits.
Open Air Theatre is designed as a bare stage, which provides different views and ways to enjoy the dramatic moment. The space can be separated easily by flexible curtains, which create all kinds of possibilities. Open Air Theater is such as a blank canvas providing artists a freedom to experiment. There are three types of stage. The exterior proscenium with 300 seats is appropriate for complex scenographies. The interior stage with 150 seats can be transformed into a thrust stage with 100 seats and provide an intimate ambiance for small-scale performances. It can also become an extension of the exterior proscenium. The last performing stage, situated in the bistro at the second flour, is suitable for a small concert, a busking, or a speech. By providing an accessible and flexible theater, the creation and the inspiration could occur at any moment.
